Match five fields across the agreement and insurance documents: driver, vehicle, use, dates and conditions. A mismatch remains a question for the insurer or qualified adviser.

Begin with the vehicle you will use

Collect the relevant insurance documents from the owner or responsible agency and compare them with the proposed work. Record the insurer, policy period, vehicle identification and the person authorised to answer coverage questions. Keep the documents in your own secure records.

Seattle’s owner guidance specifically includes an insurance condition for its limited temporary-use arrangement. That is a reason to verify the actual documents, not to assume that any person with access to a taxi is automatically covered.

Read five fields together

  1. Driver: ask whether your proposed operation is covered and whether any exclusion or named-driver condition affects you.
  2. Vehicle: compare the document with the exact cab and any replacement arrangement.
  3. Use: describe the service and location accurately, including airport work if relevant.
  4. Dates: check when the cover begins and ends, rather than relying on last year’s certificate.
  5. Conditions: identify the limits, deductibles, exclusions and reporting procedures that matter to the proposed work.

Ask a precise question

A useful question is: “I will drive this vehicle under this arrangement on these dates. Please confirm whether the policy covers that use and identify any conditions or exclusions that affect me.” Ask for a written answer from the responsible insurer, broker or qualified adviser.

Do not treat this checklist as an interpretation of a policy. A certificate, a quotation and the complete policy may contain different information. Ask which documents control and who can resolve a discrepancy.

A fictional mismatch

A driver receives a certificate for Vehicle A but is offered Vehicle B while A is being repaired. The original certificate alone does not resolve the replacement situation. The useful next step is to obtain confirmation for Vehicle B and the proposed driver and use. It is not to change the vehicle number on the old document.

Keep historical offers in their period

The WWTCOA insurance record includes announcements from the association’s history. Old providers, enrolment sessions, prices and application links are not current offers. This site does not quote, sell or bind insurance.

Once coverage questions are answered, enter the confirmed cost basis in the shift worksheet. Keep that arithmetic separate from the decision about coverage.
